She turned me into OSHA and they made me put a safety net to cover the stair well.

Post 14, Front stairwell foot rest. I have plans on moving the bosses chair forward to make more room in the living room. With that I needed to add a foot rest for the passenger. I framed it in under the floor by making a false floor over the front wheel. I used 1/4 inch angle to fabricate the foot rest. I used a 12 volt linear actuator to move the rest in and out. I did not want to use air. The cam followers run on tubing. I used tubing because it a\has a rounded edge and fits the cam follower better. The slot in the tube is to be able to remove the rest if I need to. There will be switches at the passenger side and at the driver console with the one that the boss uses has priority .

Looking good Wayne! Sliding footrest is on my list of things--one day! Heck, after the spring thaw, it looks like you might be ready for a skinning party. Too cold up there for us So Cal folks now--they're gonna start issuing wool jockey shorts to brass monkeys! It just got below 70 degrees here now, so we're going to take a week off and head to Yuma in a couple of hours.
Hope all's well with you guys and I'm sure we'll see you down this direction before the snow hits hard!

Thanks Art. If all goes well we will start the motor next week. I just picked up some .125 6061 3 sheets 5 feet by 40 feet. I hope to put that on the first of next month if I can find enough help. Will have to see if our kid go back to the middle east in January so we can get down to Q. Safe travels.

Wow! I am impressed by your craftsmanship. The stair well and sliding step are works of art.
Just a thought-- You could use some strong permanent magnets to hold the foot rest in its fully extended and fully retracted positions. It would probably be more intuitive to use than a mechanical latch. On second thought, not having a mechanical latch might create a fall hazard if a child stood on the foot rest and leaned against the windshield. Hmm... just a couple of things to consider.

Thank You Spark. The linear actuator stays where you put it. It uses a motor to move it in or out. By reversing polarity on the motor it determines if it goes in or out. I have not pulled on it to see if it moves but I will to make sure it stays put.

PS there is much more done on the bus than the posts. I guess I have become lazy about posting. I will try and get caught up. It makes it easier with the photo posting made easier.

A linear actuator will work much better than magnets or latches. I used a pair of high-speed, 33 lbs, linear actuators to swing the bottom step out. They easily hold the step fully extended with heavy foot traffic. I want to make an automatic latch to protect the actuators. What if a large object, like a sheet of plywood, smashed into my step while being carried in or out of the bus?--It would probably break a gear tooth inside the actuator. You probably won't have the same problem since yours will be retracted when parked, but it is something to consider.
I also need to take some pictures and update my thread. A lot has changed since my last post.

Do to the fact that Eagles have poor air circulation under them going down the road and cruise airs need good circulation I decided to mount the Cruise airs on the roof. I raised the roof 6 inches more than the factory 9 inch raise. Then I recessed the cruise airs and satellite dish in 10 inch deep pockets. The cruise airs will stick up about 4 inches and they will be covered by a cowling. The bus will be 12 feet 10 inches tall to the top of the cowling. There are 4 – 2 inch drains in each pocket to remove any water that gets into them.
a small piece of the roof mounted on the awning to close the pocket. The pockets are sealed so any
The awnings will mount in a pocket in the side of the roof. When the awnings are retracted there will be
water that might get in will not enter the bus. With no awning outside the roof the air flow will be
smooth. There will be a removable panel on the back side of the awning for access for adjusting and
maintenance.
All pockets have trusses that support the roof where it was cut. And every truss is supported back down
to the main truss.

Wayne, that is beautiful work! It is easy for me to imagine how awesome your bus is going to look when you're done.
