Diesel cooling fan
Does anyone else have a hydraulic cooling fan motor? My bus has a newer Cummins and a hydraulic cooling fan motor. The wire to the sensor chafed through and it threw me for a loop until a shop tech found it. It overheated the first time I took it for a ride last summer for a dump run. Overheated in the New Hampshire hills. Had it towed because I was afraid of cooking it.

Stu, glad we got your login squared away.
It sounds like your hydraulic motor is somehow temperature controlled. If this is the case, I would simply disable the temperature control and run it full time. On my series 60 the fan (mechanical) had a clutch system that was temperature controlled. I disabled it. I suspect there would be almost no difference in mileage. Might take longer to warm up, but this should not be a problem.
If the motor has a mechanical issue, you could take it to a full hydraulic distributor and they should be able to rebuild and test.

Re: Diesel cooling fan
It works fine so far with the wire replacement, I think I will just leave it alone. It goes on and off when it needs to so less time on the hydraulic motor. Hoping that will give a nice extended life. At this point I spend almost all of my time caring for mom, so no time for any usage of the bus. When I do start it up it has to do with the refurbishing I am doing . Stu
