replacing the windshield

I am replacing the driver's front window. The new gasket is not long enough to lay over the flange. I am stretching with a come along all night tonight to see if I can make it long enough to lay over the flange. If I can't I will have to use the old one. Any ideas?

Wow David, I guess we will have to call you the windshield expert :D I dug up an earlier post from you for the other windshield:
http://eagles-international.net/forums/ ... 63&p=29183. Assume you got that one in OK

I doubt that stretching the gasket will work. If your old one is in good condition, I would be tempted to use it. That said, these gaskets are not cheap and you should probably have a talk with your vendor.

Another possibility would be to splice in a piece of the old gasket. If you do, use good windshield adhesive: url]https://www.amazon.com/3M-08693-Urethan ... B000RW1XCK[/url]

In the previous thread, I mentioned buying gasket in bulk and making your own.

David, I would place the rubber on the glass,
place a cord in the flange grove over lapping at some
point and pull the rubber over the flange.
Just my way, good luck. Bob

Bob was correct. It has to be on the glass. It took us 1.5 hours to get that thing on the glass. It was incredibly difficult. I put the rope into the gasket and with a friend pushed it tight to the frame. We started at the lower corner near the curve and got the bottom on and worked our way up the center post and sort of got stuck at the turn near the top. For over an hour we soaped, pushed, pried, and everything else to get her in. We finally got the outside curve, bottom corner in and worked our way up, bending the glass somewhat to make it fit. It was so tight at the top. I just couldn't quite get the rope out. Finally after much prying and pushing I was able to get the rope out and the rubber layed over the flange. Over 2 hours we messed with that rope. Man it was hard to do.

By the way. We broke the old glass during removal. It is tough to get out, also.

Good luck to anyone that tries to do this.

David, I have heard of folks trimming the fiberglass a bit to make the installation easier. Do you think that would have helped?

No, I don't see how that would help
