Blogging About Our Inaugural Bus Trip

We have not had a post in this forum for a while, so I thought I might talk about our Inaugural bus trip.

A few days ago, we celebrated our tenth anniversary. No not Pat and I (we are working on 52 years), but rather the tenth anniversary of the first trip in our bus. We left Evergreen on March 6, 2006 for what turned out to be a 5 week, 2500 mile trip.

When I think back on the trip, I get a mixture of emotions. We had less than 100 miles on my Series 60/Eaton AutoShift conversion prior to our departure. I had planned to do at least one shake-down trip, but ran out of time and we had several commitments that we needed to attend. So, the major emotion is amazement that we would even attempt the trip with so little testing - I would not do that today The other emotions that come to mind are joy and fond memories. It was an amazing trip.

For many years I have documented our travel in some detail. I do this mostly to permit us to go back and enjoy memories. I also wanted to share our travels with our family. Later that documentation morphed into a couple of blog platforms. Today we use WordPress software hosted on our website.

As Clifford has attested, this getting old is not for the faint of heart, or for sissies. That said, at least we are still around to complain about our aches and pains We just lost a neighbor who was 67.

Yesterday our oldest daughter turned 50

Speaking of hands, I was telling the students in the class I was teaching this week that I am simply amazed that I have all my fingers. One of the students said: "yes, but how many scars do you have on those hands "

The one thing that age brings is a huge bank account of memories. Pat and I are blessed to have had amazing lives. We have traveled all over this beautiful country and many other countries around the world.
