8v71 versus 6v92 bell housing

Here are my questions. I have a 6V92T with a 740 hanging on it.

Will the bell housing fit the 8v71 or do we need a different one?
I also have a 8v71 with a MT654CR . Will the 740 fit that bell housing ?

Got a member that has a 8v71 with manual, wants my 740, I just want to make sure I get him the right stuff.Easiest would be if all the 6V92 stuff will work.
My two engines and trans are 300 miles apart trying to get it right the first time.

You need a different one ED the rear main seal holder is different the flex phttp://www.eaglesinternational.net/forum/posti ... =23894late" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; from a 92 series won't work either the 71 series bellhousing will work on 740 just leave the drop down ring off you still need a flex plate your 71 series with the 600 series tranny won't work for the 740
The starter ring gear is on the flexplate for a 600 series and on the transmission converter on a 740 confused lol

I forgot if your bellhousing does not have a drop ring it won't work either most Eagles had a drop ring with 600 series fwiw

I remember that one Ed. When we switched Manny's engine we had to take the flex off his cause he had a 740 & 8-71 and mine was an mt-654. Not a big deal to change, just finding the parts and $$$$ cash!! LOL

Ed you can just buy the center hub for the 71 the plate off the 6v92 will work on a 71 buying a new flexplate will dip into your profit and loss column big time lol

So the 740 trans at Eric's along with the flex plate off the 92. The bell housing
off my 71 here and a hub for the 71.
Steve is coming here next week for the radiator and exhaust system off my 71 so I will get the bell housing off also. Then he is going to Eric's probably to get the trans/ flexplate.
He needs only to locate a hub correct ?

Lol ...Clifford I said to Ed this afternoon that you probably had all this info in your head. If I read right I'd just be missing the plate (hub) that Eric and Manny changed out. Manny or Eric, if your reading all this do you still have this part laying around?? If you do can i purchase it from you? If not does anyone know where I can buy it new?

Ed does the bellhousing have the ring that Clifford is talking of. This is tough for me cause I have no knowledge of any of these parts.

The ring drops the SAE 1 bell housing to a SAE 2 size for the 600 series the 700 series use the SAE 1 bell housing size it looks like part of 600 series transmission but really isn't

Save the ring ED it is a piece of gold there for the MCI guys lol

Ok, I have these two bellhousings side by side and I can't tell one from the other. I did mark them with a permanent sharpy before I sat them on the same wall. I just can't see or measure a difference in the two. If they are in fact the same casting I would like to use my original as it has been mounted all it's life to my block. Clifford or somebody here hopefully can chime in and point out the difference. I need to send the one I'm going to use to get a caustic bath this week.

Steve look at the rear main seal holder the 71 series will be smaller than a 92 series if all else fails measure,
A 71 series will also have a breather location on the bell housing (right side from tha back) the 92 series don't have that they are located on the valve covers Be sure and check your bolt drawings from the manual some of those bolts have seal washers you leave those out it will leak lol
