Suspension repair?

Post by Busrookie »

Hi all.  New to the eagle club and have some questions.   I'm needing some torsalastic work done and don't know where to go.  Have a 1995 model 15 that needs ride height adjusted.  I think the steer is going to have to be reindexed if possible.  Some of the shackles on drive axle the rubber looks pretty bad on.  Lots of threads left on drive adjustment rods, steers not near as much.  The torsion cans all look good as far as I can tell.  I'm in Illinois and had tried contacting Eagle Nest Coach in Nashville to no avail.  Not sure if they are still in business.  Any suggestions for a experienced reputable shop would be appreciated.

Thank you for the reply.  I am hoping to find something closer if possible.  I'm still a working stiff and having the free time to take it that far is hard to come by.  Will see what transpires.

Adjusting an Eagle suspension system can be done by a person with good mechanical skills and a willingness to tackle a bit of a tough job.  There is a step by step discussion series beginning with this thread:  viewtopic.php?t=46&sid=8c794909eb8b2de2944ed340a234532c

Any attempt to do the adjustment must include a good way to weigh each axle.  The following are some links on methods to do that.

The following post talks about adjusting the bogey axle and also talks about using hydraulic jacks with pressure gauges.

The following post talks a bit about making a scale from hydraulic parts.  The link in the post no longer works, but you can get an idea.  viewtopic.php?p=22957  I recently made a new weight measuring system using these components:

hydraulic ram:  https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09C3 ... =UTF8&th=1

digital gauge:  https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0148 ... UTF8&psc=1

A better jack ram might be:  https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CW5F7XFJ/re ... L0InC&th=1

BTW, a 1 7/8 wrench is not cheap.  I would be glad to loan my wrench to anyone attempting the process.

Thank you Jim for the links and help.  I'm pretty mechanical being an Ole farm boy and 30 year veteran owner operator trucker.  My issues are the time to do it and the place to do it for the amount of time it would take me.  I'm still trucking full time so that consumes most everything I have time wise.  I also have an issue where both left and right front adjustment bolts on the drive axle have been contacting the angle bracing on the chassis.   To the point they have flat spotted the threads in that area and one of the bolts is even slightly bent.  Also Im afraid the steer suspension will need reindexed to gain some adjustment as there isn't much left.  The torsion cans all seem in good shape as far as I can tell.  The bus was built as an RV new so it only has about 80000 actual miles on the chassis.   No rust whatsoever anywhere.  Just was hoping to find someone with expertise on these eagles to get mine back where it needs to be.
