SOLD 1982 Eagle Model 10 Bus for Sale

Post by Rpowkyaz »

My father purchased a 1982 Eagle Model 10, Serial # 30527 and converted it to his dream bus.  After taking it on a few trips, my mother had a stroke and subsequently broke her back.  Long story short, his dream coach has sat in the garage he purpose-built for it for over twenty years.  Dad is now 87 and in extremely poor health.  We've encouraged him for the last 15 years to try and find someone who would be able to enjoy it, but he hated to think of selling it.  Now, even he agrees it's time to find it a new home. He's installed all new tires and corrected some minor mechanical issues, now we're looking for someone to give it a some TLC. The coach is located in Radcliff, KY just outside Fort Knox, KY. Asking $25,000

Your Eagle should sell reasonably quickly as it looks good, the main factor that may affect selling now is fuel prices. It would be prudent to list what engine and transmission it has, and any other improvements such as inverters, generators, etc. It is not technically correct to refer to it as an International or American Eagle, it is simply a 1982 Model 10 Eagle. There is a clothing manufacturer that uses the American Eagle name, and I believe a RV company has used the American Eagle name. You should indicate the brand and model of the tires and their DOT manufacture date to get the full value of their worth. I can see that it would be painful to sell this Eagle as long as there is any hope of using it, so it is good that he has accepted parting with it.

Almost all forum software is set so that the poster can't edit their post after something like 24 hours.  Lots of reasons for that, but not worth discussing here.

As administrator I can edit posts any time, but only do so if there is a strong justification and specifically requested by the poster.  There are times I add an editorial comment, but I make sure it is clear what/why the additional comments are made.

It is always better to add information in subsequent posts.

Dad has passed away and I don't realistically see any of us taking the bus on the road.  Looking for a serious buyer who will provide it a good home.  Reducing price to $20,000.  Might be willing to discuss less.
Tire DOT codes are only viewable on two tires.  Not sure, at this point, how many tires were replaced.  They all look in good condition and lots of tread but obviously not all are new.

Sorry to hear about your father, he certainly did a good job of getting his Eagle in great shape. The tire code information is probably not correct. If the tires were new within the last few years there would be a four digit number code after the DOT brand (as well as those other code numbers) that would consist of two numbers indicating the week number of manufacture, and then two numbers of the last two digits of the year, for example, 3921 would mean they were made in the 39th week of 2021. If you don't see it on the outside, it is on the inside face. It is required to be on the tire, so it has to be there.

The other details about the Eagle will be important to know for prospective customers. The transmission will have a metal plate just above the lower pan on the drivers side. It might be a HT740, but there are other versions in the 700 series. I inspected a 1982 MCI bus recently that the owner claimed was a four speed, but the plate revealed that it was a five speed. A 1982 Eagle usually had either a 8V71 or 6V92, only the 6V92 was turbo charged. Count the cylinders, (check the exhaust manifold) it might be a 6V92, or a modified 8V71. If you are in the dark about how this Eagle is equiped, people might take advantage of that. Advertise in several locations to get the best coverage. There are not many postings on this board, but there are many viewers of it. A poster like luvrbus (Cliff) is widely respected and known across all of the bus conversion forums and Facebook. His advice is golden.

My sincerest thanks to DoubleEagle, luvrbus & beltguy for your assistance.  We finally sold the bus, the buyer performed a thorough inspection and found a few more items of note, but the final result is the bus is going to a good home.
Thanks again!
