Lowering floor 3”

Post by 80Eagle10 »

Hi I recently bought a 1980 model 10 and have gutted it but I am a bit to tall and with ceiling wood it will be to close. I looked at raising ceiling but don’t want to do that and thought I have more then enough under can I just cut and re weld vertical supports 3” and leave everything else the same? Has anyone done this? Open to any insight or suggestions.

I've never heard of it being done, and I suspect that it would not be a simple job. It would be far easier to raise the roof, that has been done many times, and there are plenty of examples. Fooling with the floor level might jeopardize structural integrity.

I suppose it could be done but to deal with all the rerouting of the tunnel stuff would be way harder than raising the roof. At some point you might question the loss of space in the bays. As Walter said you would have to make sure and redo the bulkheads as they cary the the bay floors. Have to think more about what else might be affected. In the long run the bad may out weight the good.

I just thought of another thing that needs a lot of thought.  The floor itself will now hang from a lower place on the outet frame and that spot is mostly bay doors . Some some sort of bridge frame will have to be used. And now all air shocks that help open the bay doors are gone
I am done thinking about this as there is no way I would tackle this and I have done some crazy things to an Eagle.

Yep, there is no getting around it, that would be a tremendous amount of work for the sake of 3". A roof raise of 6 or more inches would be a lot more practical. Even getting a different bus that is already taller would be more practical. Sometimes the mind cooks up ideas that get shot down by reality.

Wasn't the floor lowered on Majors 07 or was it lowered in the rear to make the floor level for the mid entry ? a 8  inch roof raise above the windows level would be easier I believe?
