Update: Luke was very helpful in tracking down original manufacturer (Meritor) and part number (20X2172). Meritor informed him it no longer manufactures the wheel studs.

I will continue to investigate all sources. Thanks again for all of your assistance.

Steven, what a mess!

I can't believe that Eagle had special hubs/studs made for the model 20.

Your photo shows a stud with the back side with threads - something I have not seen before. Then again, I don't have a lot of experience.

I went back to the site I mentioned earlier and looked at their stud listings. They are very good to list dimensions. I have to wonder if one of those studs could be made to work)

Jim,

Thanks for your message. Yes, it is now day 16 of my ordeal (I’m a stranded full-timer) and counting. Talk about an unexpected Achilles heel. These wheel studs are unique and Meritor no longer manufactures them. No parts or bus company I have found has a replacement or cross-reference. I previously checked the Nicks site and am waiting for a response as to whether any of their studs might possibly work.

The wheel end is going to be the same size for the hub pilot wheels find one that is larger or close in dia and same length on the hub side re drill the drum and press it in and be on your way

Thanks for your ideas and input. I’m not a mechanic, or experienced with wheel issues like this, but I will share this with the people Coach-Net assigned.

With sincere gratitude to God, Gaia, Jupiter, Thor and the Eagle Forum, I happily report that my aging Silver Eagle NJT Model 20 finally got underway after “resting” for 22 days. Dark clouds parted and the correct Meritor wheel studs and nuts miraculously appeared. And with considerable applied effort, were finally installed. She turns 30 in September. Thanks to all for your ideas, sources, and good will.

Who turned out to be the magical source? New Old Stock, or made to order for you by Meritor? Are they unique to the New Jersey Model 20, after all? You might be able to save someone else from going through what you have.
