Dear Eagles:
I have a model 5 which I bought a few years ago. I have called a couple of you guys for tech and you all were wonderful and full of knowledge. I bought the autex winshield wiper conversion which is everything you said it would be. I am however having trouble removing the original wipers. I don't understand how to remove the bolts that are in the housing frame. I do not know how to get at them from the front. Do I just remove the bolts holding the wiper arms from the front of the bus and somehow I can get in and remove the lower bolts. Thanks. Secondly, I have this huge heater box that defrost the front windshield. Surely someone has figured out a way to use a smaller system so I can use that area for come storage space for the supervisor (wife).

Hi Whitney, welcome to our group

It sounds like you folks are getting serious about your conversion. I suggest you purchase a CD version of the Eagle maintenance and parts manuals. One source is: http://www.coachinfo.com/All_About_Buse ... _Info.html

I looked in my manual and it was a bit vague. Obviously you have to remove the outside hardware. Then you have to remove the air motor an its mounting plate. The hardest part is getting to the area where the motors are mounted.

Concerning the heat and defrost options, many of us have taken various routes. Most of us remove the over the road AC and quite a few remove all of the under dash heat and AC hardware. In my case I adapted a Red Dot unit discussed in this thread: http://eagles-international.net/forums/ ... 31e#p29812. While that thread concentrates on the AC side, I use the unit for heat and AC as well. You can see the details buried somewhere in my project pages (see signature).

If you are only looking at heat and defrost only, there are a few aftermarket units for street rods that should work pretty well. One unit that might work is: http://www.vintageair.com/Instructions2013/906101.pdf.

Not sure I answered your questions. If not, ask again.

Jim

Thank you so much Jim;
We have actually spoken by phone. You shared autex windshield wiper conversion with me. The wiper motors just pop out with gentle tapping on the arms. Pretty easy. The frame where the motors is mounted had two nuts where evidently another bus type used it as a conversion. What a relief to be able to see. I am waiting to get my headlights I ordered after reading your post about the conversion, and the wonderful explanation about relays. I knew that dinosaur heater by the front bulkhead could be replaced to give us a little more room. I still have the built in floor acs. Do you have a recommendation for a post showing how to make them more efficient. Thanks Whitney
