Post by JeffreyBryanMeek »

Does anyone have any info, length and pounds, of the baggage door struts on a 15 with the SMOOTH pantograph style baggage doors and the rear engine bay door that is the louvered style?

Jeffrey, I had hope that someone with the Bodi type bay doors would respond.

Wayne Schell talks about those doors on his project page: http://eagles-international.net/forums/ ... 52&p=28583. I did not see any details about the strut. Maybe Wayne will chime in.

Perhaps as a start, the bi-fold bay doors use a 20 inch 160 pound strut: http://eagles-international.net/forums/ ... ?f=5&t=894. I would think that the 160 pound rating would work for the pantograph (sp?) door and you could find the correct length from a vendor.

I am not sure if this post is for the same engine door, but it might be a start: http://eagles-international.net/forums/ ... 58&p=13920

I think Eric Brown has the Bodi drawings. Maybe he or someone can send them to me and I can find a way to post them.

If you look at the shocks you have there will be a number on them. That number is pretty universal that is it tell the length the size of the tube the end connection and pressure. I am at work so don't have one in front of me but will try and remember to bring one tomorrow. I think the pressure ( the last 3 digits ) is 150 lbs. I am using aluminum siding on my doors and that makes them a little heavier so I went up to 200 lbs and that is a little to much. I can't remember where I got mine but I will try and find that.

Jeffery, The ones I have are made by Guden, 99 Raynor Ave Ronkonkoma NY 11779 1 800 3 hinges, model GGS#$-200-J 3515 This model is 200 lbs pressure. Stock pressure is 150. I would not go any higher than 150 lbs if everything is stock. Have your coffee before you order them they are not cheap. If you can get the information from there site it will give you the size, the length, and the end connections and you can cross to some other company. If you find cheaper ones let us know.

I had hoped to find out for SURE what the length and pressure was from the factory. You never know what a PO replaced them with by mistake. As far as Price, Ebay "Strut-Your-Stuff"''' 19.7" x 150# (rear door) $11.46 per. 28.5" x 150# (baggage doors)14.21 per.

Rusty, I don't believe those specs are correct for panto-graphic smooth (not corrugated) bay doors. The are definitely not correct for the rear engine door for a louvered door.

Yes the engine door is not the same as the bay doors.I will try and fine the specs on the engine panographic door. After looking at the struts for the bay doors I realized that I did change the ends from a pass through pin to a 13 mm ball end but the length is still the 26.32 inches. Those specs are for the panographic bay doors. I hope we are not passing each other with terms. The panographic door is a one piece door not a two piece door.

Rusty, thanks for the input. I do think that the panto bay doors are slightly longer than that.

Jeffery, The doors I have I got from Jefferson. If you buy from Jefferson they supply parts by the eagle numbers from Eagle manuals. Now It is true I but these doors on from scratch so I guess I could have used a shorter strut, but I don't think the door would open all the way if it was shorter. I have the drawing for the Bodi doors that were used on the 15 but can't find it. Maybe if Eric has his drawing he can see what strut is used. I would be very interested in knowing what strut you have. When my doors are open all the way the strut is all the way out. As it closes it is all the way closed when the door is within about 6 inches of closed and then out a little when the door is closed. That tells me the length is all calculated to be correct. If the strut was any longer it would be almost impossible to get a strut mounted. To get the strut on I have to loosen the up stop a little to let the door go a little pass full open so I can get the strut on. It is impossible to collapse the strut by hand.
