Rain water leaks

Hello. I have a 1969 Eagle. I've only had it a month and we had our first rain since I acquired it. there was some water on the floor in the back, I believe this was blown in between the sliding windows. What troubled me was near the midpoint of the bus the floor boards above the basement near the outside skin was wet. It had to leach down through the wall. I checked the seals in the nearest window and it all looked in tact. Is there a common problem with seams allowing water in along the roof line? Is there a trouble spot on these that are prone to leaking?

Hi Peter. Welcome to the forum.

Stock windows used to have water problems, but from moisture on the inside. It would cause rust problems in the tubing below the window. I think there were pretty well sealed from outside water/rain.

That said, you mention sliding windows, so that would be aftermarket windows. I have not had a problem with mine, but there could be two possible areas that the water could get in. First would be the seal between the window and the body. The second could be a failure of the gasket/seal between the windows.

If you know which window has the problem, you could have someone flood the window with a garden hose and see if you can find the leak.

Assuming it is between the body and window, it would be best to pull the window and reseal it. That is not a huge job. You would pull the interior trim ring and push the window out (be sure to have someone to catch it). Then use butyl tape to reseal the window (after you clean all the old seal off). Do not try to seal the widow with RTV silicone.
