Where would I find information on towing a 1989 Ford 250 XLT Lariat PU? Want to know if' it's towable or not.

Paul, I just went out and checked in the owners manual for my 2002 F350 superduty and it has a section called recreational towing. There it gives some guidlines on how it should be towed. Mine says that it can be towed but not at speeds of more than 35 MPH for more than 50 miles. If it is going to be further or faster than that it recomends you disconecting the drive shaft. I hope that helps.

Paul, the FMCA has a site for towable's but Sparky has it right disconnect the drive shaft if you are going to use for a toad you need a drive shaft disconnet from Remco very pricey and a pain in the A** or the transmission pump from the same.Even the new manual trannies have problems with towing. On my Jeep a manual tranny you put the transfer case in netural and the transmission in 4th so it will lube good luck

Clifford,

Someone told me that on a Jeep with a manual, you could tow it but it ran the miles up on the Jeep while it was being towed? Is that true? My Sahara was an auto and I was told that autos didn't do that. I never found out because I sold the Sahara before I ever got a bus on the road.

My auto trans wrangler does not rack up miles while towing. I put the transmission in Park and the transfer case in neutral. I have 60,000 miles behind the bus no proplems.

I'm going down to get the pick up from my Dad this Saturday and will look at the manual. I assume it will say to disconnect the drive line, I'll report back what I find. I was just hoping it would work as a toad because I got such a good deal! 8-)

Just put a Remco drive shaft on a Mazda B4000 (think that is model) they don't make the trans pump for it. Other than the usual deal with 1 of the Ujoints being a ROYAL PAIN it worked great. The actual install was simple and then to disconnect/re-connect drive shaft you just pull the handle that you mount in the cab. Other than that one u-joint it went together VERY easily and seams to work very well. It wasn't my vehicle, but I just talked to my father today and he said he had to adjust the cable a little to set it up a little better, but he loves it. No more crawling underneath to unhook the drive shaft every time he travels. It takes a couple seconds and don't get dirty or have to lay in whatever crap weather he ends up in when he wants to drive or tow it.

Anything is toable if you have the coin. My 98 Chevy half-ton was that way, all I had to do is put on the drive-shaft thing and they told me a "brake controller." All for the amazing low price of $4,200 which was about 85% of the value of the truck at the time.

Even offered to wire it all up for only $350 cash. Passed on the brake controller, drive line gizmo and associated "you need this to do that."

God Bless Campin' World ... enuff said on that.

I opted out on that deal, bought an HHR ... you pull one fuse and you are good to go. Kind of small but I like it, wrangling an Eagle around all week it is kind of nice to jump into something small and zippy.

FMCA has a site on towables, you might want to check it out Paul. But I suppose I am a little late with that bit of "news" huh?

When I lost my job last May, we sold the truck. I was vehicle rich and dollar poor! Now I'm just poor! ;)

But life is good, I probably jumped the gun, so life moves on! :D

Life is great! It is a good day to be above ground, I don't care where it is you live. We all have a tendency to make a mistake every now and then, that is life. I held three garage sales, cashed it all in, sold my house, and the whole nine yards ... to live on the road, be a full timer.

Then I found out, "she has to come home and touch her stuff."

Enuff said on that. Now I am back in the country, buying all the tools that I sold previously again, and living life as best as I can "with a promise to leave me alone and let me go anytime that I want to go."

What the hey? It was the BEST deal I could negotiate.

If we all got a prison sentence every time we messed up in life, most of us would be doing ten to twenty with no time off for good behavior.

Anywho, that is how I see it.

See you in the fast lane ... *

*McBreeze I sent you a PM today, let me know if you don't get it? Hahahahahahahaha.
