ED's 77 Model 05

Guess it's time to start a project thread on what will be a major undertaking.
My end goal is to still be alive when done !!!
The major project is to re-power it. I am tired of having to plan every pass of a vehicle or going 20 up an ant hill.
Going to remove the 8v71 and raise the floor, which means gutting the rear
bedroom and turning the bed from the current and wrong sideways position.
Also going to replace all the wheel hoops and any other rust issues. The original air system is still tucked away between the bogies so that is going to go, which means removing all the tanks in the last bay.

Going to put in a 60 series 12.7 and allison 4000 series, sound familiar?
Eric has done it worked out the bugs, and ain't that far away for me. I figure before he forgets I need to pick his brain, no sense in me re-inventing the wheel.
So soon I will post some before pictures of the bus and hopefully during and after . Not setting any time constraints but it is my only project I am doing until finished.
Thanks ED

Well hell Ed if you are not going with a yellow engine at least go with 14L series 60 they are identical in size and have more power and yield better fuel mileage to boot than a 12.7 a better engine it just so happens I have a pair of 825 hp 14L engines lol

If you do buy a 12.7 do your homework make sure it has all the upgrades no matter what the 60 series lovers tell you they are not bullet proof

Clifford, I was under the assumption from what I have heard that the 14.0 l was an EGR engine and one to stay away from !
I knew I would hear from you , guess I could paint it yellow.

The 14.0 L is probably cheaper from what I have seen. Okay, lets hear all the pros and cons on both engines. I got time , lot of work to get to that point.
Thanks ED

Reprogram it and do away with EGR both of my 14L are non EGR I posted some info for in the above thread I'll say in here do your home work on 12.7 or it will bite you.

Wayne is installing a 14L in his Eagle I bet he works around the EGR

When you get ready I have the engine mounts for a series 60 in a Eagle mine will work without any re fab work in a 05 call me and I will ship or bring those to you

We will have a new number in a couple of days as we are moving back to Scottsdale now I know Sonja is going to make me get a haircut every 2 weeks damn lol

WELCOME TO HELLLLL ED!!!LOL Just kidding! I never could find a 14l that wasn't a DDEC V. I have not found a hill that the 12.7 with 550 hp wouldn't tackle. I don't know if the drop box setup would handle the tourque of an 850 hp engine!! I looked at a lot of engines of all colors, and would do the exact same setup if I started over today. Clifford is right the 12.7 and 14 are the same size, and need about half the cooling you have on the 8V-71. I know you are not an electronic engine guy but in the long run they give better performance and mileage. I will help any way I can short of blowing my back an knee, wacking my hand with a portaband, or roasting body parts with a torch!@!!!!

P.S. We need pics to feed the addiction!!
