Looking for a larger air cleaner assembly that will fit into my 01 Eagle to replace the factory 8v71 unit that I currently have. Does anyone have any ideas? According to my filter minder, I am pulling 17 inches of water with a new filter. According to the Detroit manual, 20 inches is the maximum limit. I believe a filter assembly from a factory 8v92 application would work?

Jim, go to Napa or any truck parts and buy the Eco system it a filter and the housing cost about 125 bucks.
I found this to be the best filter for a 8v92t.
If you need numbers let me know mine may not work on yours but just measure where your inlet and outlet are plus the dia of pipes mine are 7 inch and I reduce down at the turbo. I flow over 1600 cfm with a 13 round by 24 long. Masco has a flow chart on their site for the Eco

You already have the right answer, just wanted to find out how you come up with the question. Do you have a turbo on your 8v71? Or did you repower to an 8v92? This is an area I have no knowledge of.

Now I get it! I have one but have never seen the idicator move, not sure if it even works. Guess I'll have to put that on my list!

Paul, Yes I have a 8v92 turbo installed....with less than 15,000 on the rebuild. I started looking into the CFM requirements after visiting with some of you guys at the Louisiana rally and had thought my air cleaner had been changed out by the previous owner, but it had not. The current housing looks big enough, but the way it is designed, Clifford is right, it only flows 900CFM at best. I installed a Filterminder and found the reported results. I now know why I have been low on power. Clifford, I will take you up on the numbers if you can find them... our local Napa people don't know how to read a book and look anything up....LOL. I have asked for parts in the past and have been told "we don't have that" only to return with the part numbers later and be told " we have 5 in stock". What happened to the real parts people? They must work off of the Autozone type computer!! What year, Make, Model, engine size......LOL!!!!

Just kidding, do you have any photos of how it was stuffed in there? Did you have to shorten anything? I can dream can't I!

Clifford is right on, like usual. I put the largest CFM Donaldson Eco series on mine when I had the 370 hp 6V92 in it. Now that I am running the ISM 450 it might never need changing. I also put on the highest flowing muffler that Donaldson had at the time. The filter number is P537456. The muffler number is M122300. That is not a double back muffler, it is a straight through.

I bought these parts in 2000 so don't know if the numbers have been superceded or a better product introduced.

Mark has made a good point which I think every one (no matter the engine)can benefit from, that is adequate intake flow as well as restriction through the muffler. My intake plumbing is 5" and should have 7", my air cleaner does not provide the cfm's that it should to put out the peak HP that it should, coupled by the fact it probably has small injectors to which this undetermined thus far. Seems the intake louvers are rather restrictive also and will have to be modified.I think aside from the engine being right on,proper air intake and exhaust are crucial in realizing the full horse power potential of an engine. Van, your air cleaner is 1100 cfm which is enough but it does need a new one it looks like it hasn't been changed in a decade. When at Quartzsite I will show you a dealer whom I buy from that sells those for around 70 bucks and that is a good buy.
