On the back side of the framing somebody had tried to weld a 1/4 inch plate to re-enforce the framing. Most of the welding was pretty bad so I decided to take off the plate and see what was behind. Behind it the 1 1/2 X 2 1/2 inch torsolastic support tubing was rusted bad.

Surprise! Or not. :?

So I sent in a order for some 1 1/2 X 2 1/2 in tubing that hopefully will be here Monday.

Today I attacked the spare tire compartment. Like everything else, it was (how do I say this nicely?) A hack job. I ripped out most of the old and all of the hack.

Hopefully tomorrow I will be able to weld most of the new pieces in.

No, unfortunately rust never sleeps... :| I don't think I should ever say "I'll post some more pictures tomorrow." :D That didn't happen!

Here are pics of the spare tire compartment. I think it turned out pretty good. There are a few loose ends but I will take care of those once I am working in the drivers area. (Location of air tank, etc.) I was just working in the spare tire compartment while I waited for some 1 1/2 x 2 1/2 in tube. I have it now!

So today I took the saw and took out most of the rear torsilastic support framing on the curb side. Tomorrow hopefully I will start replacing it.

rosette welds are really hard to remove! :x :x

Wow, what a project!!

Looks to me like you are doing a great job. It is great that you have a good work area and the tools necessary to do the job.

It is great that you are documenting your project. First of all, we are enjoying watching an Eagle come back to life, and secondly, you have great documentation about your Eagle when the time comes to sell it -- hopefully after years of enjoying traveling in a great, safe, bus conversion.
