As is fairly common, I just don't believe the owner knows what he has. Here is the engine in the bus. Looks pretty stock to me unless he has changed it since he sent me these pictures when he first listed the bus. Honestly, I don't even see anything there that makes me think it has been rebuilt.

You can see all of his pictures larger on my Photobucket page at:

Here's the 6V92 in my old Model 20. Again, comparing his to mine, I don't see anything to make me think it is a rebuilt 8V71. Mine actually looks a little better and that is how it left NJT.

Thanks Clifford but $70,000 is out of my budget. $40,000 is the very top and a little out of my comfort zone. More important, it's way out of my wife's.

Paul, thanks for the advice on what to look for if I decide to go and have a look at the '66 01.

Steve,

What are you expecting for your 35-40K budget? or what are you looking for?

Hi Julio,

First, we're looking for something that's sound mechanically. Like I said we are on a budget and unable to drop another $40K into it right away.

I don't know much about the mechanical aspects but would love to learn. That's how I found my way to this forum. I just don't want any really expensive lessons right off the bat.

A few years back I drove a school bus part time when I was between jobs. I enjoyed driving but they kept wanting me to fill it up with kids and that took all of the fun out of it. They were way too rowdy.

My wife is a pretty fair carpenter and I'm decent with electrical stuff, (I have a small computer business) so we were looking for one with some kind of an interior that we could get some use out of right away but upgrade ourselves over time. We have two teenage sons that still like to hang out with us so we'd like to be able to travel with them before they head off to college.

We just started looking a few weeks ago so we're learning as we go.

Steve,

Why don't you guys come to our Texas Bus Roundup Sep 30 - Oct 3, 2010. That way you could take a look at some coaches, maybe find one for sale. Let me know if you want some details.
