Re: Engines, Transmissions and more
We've already been talking about it, Jim! haha
I spoke to Dan this morning on the phone and he said Gilbert really didn't want to ship the windshields but it might be a good idea if someone could buy them and pick them up on the way to Breaux Bridge for anyone who might need one.

Re: Engines, Transmissions and more
I talked to Gilbert this morning. Very nice guy with tons of bus experience! He has a customized Model 07. When I say customized I don't mean just a raised roof and converted. I mean he has built something totally custom out of it! He also has a NJT 20 and... I can't remember what the other Eagle is that he has. Unfortunately he doesn't have a computer and doesn't do internet. Looks like I'm gonna have to go down there and take pictures of his stuff.
But he's got some good deals if anyone is interested.

Re: Engines, Transmissions and more
The early Detroits were called green, the later ones silver. The silver engines have more material and better coolant ports plus some other internal differences that make them better. These days everyone thinks green has to do with emissions and earth-friendly but in this case it isn't that. If you have a choice, always go for the silver engine because it cools better. The greens are common to have problems if you put a turbo on them.

Re: Engines, Transmissions and more
As I understood, a 8V71 with Turbo is not a good option? The 8V71 is considered a Green engine also?

Re: Engines, Transmissions and more
I think the 'green' or 'silver' is a 92 designation. I don't think it applies to 71s. The Silver 92 was the upgraded 92 to fix the problems with the original 92 Series.
The 8V71 Turbo is my engine of choice. I am taking out my Silver 6V92 and putting the 8V71T in my Eagle. A lot of older drivers with lots of experience with these things say that the 8V71 is the best Detroit had to offer. And of course, there are a lot of people who disagree too so I will say that to be fair. The 71 is a much more forgiving engine that the 92, and the 71 is a smoother engine too.
The way I look at it, anything I could do to a 92 to make it stronger can also be done to a 71. Plus, I don't have to worry about the seals around the liners getting hot and putting coolant into my oil.
That's just me.
