Tatto Hwy Overheating.

Post by buscrazyinFL »

I just finished watching Tattoo Hwy. On this week's episode they had problems with the engine overheating. Eddie said the driver was pushing it to hard...could that be the reason to overheat? What do you guys think the problem is? I think his Eagle has a 8V71. I just don't want Eddie to give up on his Eagle. :?:

I haven't seen the episode yet... It's on the Tivo waiting!

But yes, the way the bus is being driven could cause it to overheat. Especially on an MUI bus, but even on a DDEC the driver needs to use his smarts when driving in irregular terrain.

Maybe Eddie will pop on here and ask the experts. Then they can run on over to Clifford's and let him fix it for them! haha... I'd drive over there for that. Maybe see if Clifford would get a tattoo out of the deal! :D

A couple of months ago (I posted on another thread), we were driving in 110 degree weather. Even with a 6V92 in good condition, with a less-than-year-old radiator, I had to hold it between 60-65 to keep it in the 190 degree range. When I hit "the hill" (Grapevine going north), I slowed to 20 on the climb to hold it at 190. That's what the trucks were doing, and there were about half-a-dozen sitting to the right of the fog line overheated, so I didn't feel so bad.

When it's summer and the weather is 100-plus, I spend more time driving by the temp gauge than by the speedo.

Good luck,

I have a small water pump and system on mine. When the temp's go up and she starts to get hot, I can reach down on the dash panel, flip a switch and it pumps water onto the face of the radiator and brings the temp's down.

Added bonus, "When the bikers get up behind it and are following too close" you can flip it on and they immediately back off! (sorry Van)

Bad news is .... You forget it and you find yourself out of water at some point in time.

If you want hot, then come to Oklahoma in the summertime, yesterday it was 99* and the humidity was about the same.

It was so hot .... I saw a dog chasing a cat ... and they were both walking!

Now that is hot friends.

It was 106 in little ole Abilene TX yesterday, with 103 scheduled for today. It sure reminds me of when I lived in Phoenix and Tucson. I'll bet Clifford is sweltering in the area he is in. It's notoriously the hottest of the hot!

I live in Florida and it gets really hot here too, but I have never lived or driven out west. I guess I can understand if you are driving it too hard when the temps are so high it can over heat. When I saw his Eagle on the side of the road and antifreeze was pouring out I thought maybe a water line broke or his thermostat was bad. The driver was commenting to his girlfriend that they have had alot of breakdowns and I hate to hear that about an Eagle.
