Re: Installing Cruise Control
If you have a DDEC motor it should be a fairly straight forward job. You will need to have the ECM enabled if it isn't now and add a couple brake switches as well as the dash on, off, set , resume switches.
If you have the mechanical motor there are a number of suppliers available. Some people have converted standard automotive systems to work to save a few bucks (using electric solenoid type actuators vs the standard vacumn type).
Lots of different ways to make it work 'your' way.

Re: Installing Cruise Control
The DDEC I's had a two component ECM/ECU with one on top of the motor and the other mounted I believe in the front bay by Eagle. The DDEC II's had a single ECM mounted on top of the motor.
The easy way to tell is by looking at the throttle pedal. If it has wires coming off it, you must have a DDEC motor as all were drive by wire.

Jerry, I don't know for sure but I would assume that since you have an 88 Model 15 that you would have a DDEC II. Like Hal says, it is just a matter of adding a couple of switches if that is the case. The actual cruise controls are built into the computer.

Re: Installing Cruise Control
Jerry, look at your engine. If you have this black box (circled in red) you have a DDEC.
But it sounds like you don't because the wire for the throttle pedal should be visible from the driver's seat.

Re: Installing Cruise Control
Jerry, if you have a air engine shut down it is a manual most 88 models were manual,do you have a push button for the transmission or a shifter. If it is a DDEC it will flash lights before startup good luck

Re: Installing Cruise Control
I just spoke with Jerry and he does not have the DDEC motor, its definitely an MUI engine. He is still looking for ideas on the cruise control if any of you have some suggestions.
