Papa, give Dick Wright a call he can tell if your genearator and inverters can be equipped with a auto start

http://www.wricointernational.com

about the 4 batteries are they golf cart are what most of us have at least 6 105 volt batteries.I also have 2 stacked 2500 watts Trace inverters give us a little more info on your setup please. When calling Dick have your genearator and inverters make and model number and he will give you good information on how to do it and he has the auto start with a good montioring system for the genearator

good luck and welcome to the board

first a quick comment. The title to this thread is a bit misleading. To help the search function, you might want to add the term auto gen. start to the title.

Further to Clifford's post. If the 4 batteries are golf cart, you will probably not be happy. This is especially true if you have a house type fridge. I have 8 golf cart and have only one day capacity. We do have a lot of electronics and they use a bunch of power. If you have 4 L16 size batteries and they are in GOOD condition, you are probably OK.

To do it right, you need to keep your batteries at at least 50% state of charge (SOC). The only accurate way to tell SOC is with a battery monitor system such as the TriMetric monitor (http://www.bogartengineering.com/). You can not tell a battery's SOC accurately with a voltmeter. Long story why, but basically voltage is only an indicator of SOC if the battery has been at rest (no charge of discharge) for several hours and our systems do not work that way. There are lots of technical papers on the web. One fairly basic site is: http://www.wholesalesolar.com/Informati ... linfo.html.

Having said that voltmeters are not an indicator of SOC, you will find tables that will list the voltages and they are very surprising. Most will indicate that 50% SOC is about 12.2 volts!!!! Many folks think they can take their batteries down into the 11s and they are really doing damage to the batteries.

For others reading this thread, there is a good thread on inverters at: http://www.eaglesinternational.net/foru ... t=inverter

OK, now to your question. It sounds like you have a pretty good system. If you have two 2500 watt inverters, I am going to guess that they are top of the line like Trace or Magna. In either case, they should have a gen. start function. Give us the details of you inverter and generator and we can help you set it up.
