De greasing an engine

Post by Sparky »

This might be a dumb question but is there any way to de grease our 6V92 our selves with maybe some degreasing spray and a power sprayer. Or should this only be done by a shop doing a steam cleaning. It would be nice to be able to identify parts on the engine with out having to get out a putty knife to remove grease. Any ideas?

Do it. Put the Gunk to it and high pressure. Steam cleaning will get it cleaner but just for the guy at home, you won't hurt it with engine degreaser.

Thanks for the help. Now maybe I won't have to throw out my clothes after working on the engine each time?

I almost forgot! Don't forget to cover up the carburetor and distributor before you get it wet! ;)

Well, I'm not sure these ol' things ever get clean--after 5 years, I still get filthy when I go down under! I started with the old putty knife to get the big stuff off, and Gunk since then--about every month-or-so. Gunk and the garden hose seems to work very well, but I always end-up cleaning up the street with Tide after I'm finished. Just when I think it's clean, I end-up working on a part of the underside that I hadn't cleaned yet. Each time, I try to eliminate one more leak. . .

Good luck,
