Fan Bearings

Post by buddyten »

Hey Guys
I have an 80 Eagle (#30170). The bearings on the radiator fan went bad. I have pulled out the rad and have successfully removed it. Have taken off the fan, and the housing thing that holds the bearings. It is a round thing, about 6" long, with a large shaft through to which the fan bolts. It has 6 bolts that hold it to the frame.

I called Norris at Jefferson about this. The new assembly is $660+ (wow!!). He did say it could be rebuilt and the 2 bearings which go into it are about $36 each, plus a "spiral ring" for about $7. Norris tried to explain to me how to rebuild this, but I am not real sure of everything he is talking about. Do any of you have any detailed instructions on how to rebuild this unit? I had a manual on CD, but someone borrowed it from me, and it cannot be located. If any of you have a manual and could scan in the instructions, it would be appreciated, or if any detailed written instructions of any kind.

Sure want to save that big money if I can possibly do so.

Thanks for all the help.

Buddy, I posted the info for you on the BNO board but you have a Bendix FD-2 model clutch and you need the waldes 6500 snap ring tool to rebuild it along with a press just post your questions here and I will help you through the process it is not hard to do. Go to the Bendix site and look at service data number SD-09-8501 I think that is the right one and it will have a break down with instructions for the rebuild
good luck and welcome to the board along with thanks for using it. any problem with the Bendix site I can have someone scan mine for you

I've done this several times. Just pull the old bearings, knock out the racesand pick them up nearly anywhere that sells bearings.

If I found them in Watson lake, Yukon you should be able to find them with no problems.
